MPI Label Systems Introduces RFID "Plug-and-Comply"

By MPI Label Systems -- Modern Materials Handling, 3/8/2005

SEBRING, OH – March 1, 2005 – In response to the demand for a truly integrated “slap-and-ship” RFID labeling solution, MPI Label Systems announces the new RFID "Plug-and-Comply". The new product debuted at the 2005 RFID World in Dallas, Texas.

The “slap-and-ship” method of RFID labeling has evolved as the easiest and least expensive way for the majority of suppliers to meet EPC compliance directives from major retailers. MPI’s RFID "Plug-and-Comply" is the first complete system to solve one of the common inefficiencies of this method – integrating the equipment into the existing space and workflow. MPI’s RFID "Plug-and-Comply" system includes either the 360RW RFID applicator, which will validate, write and affix RFID labels in a single process, or the 3600RW RFID label printer/applicator which is the print and apply unit that eliminates the need for pre-printed RFID labels. Both can be incorporated in a scalable and modular conveyor loop system that is customized to fit each customer’s existing space configurations. Key benefits of MPI’s RFID "Plug-and-Comply" system are:
• Compact: RFID "Plug-and-Comply" can be deployed in an area as small as 200 square feet.
• Flexible operator requirements: The automatic labeling capability paired with a loop configuration, allows the system to function with as few as one operator.
• Ease of maintenance: MPI’s RFID "Plug-and-Comply" utilizes industrial components and factory automation systems familiar to maintenance departments.
• Ease of integration: RFID "Plug-and-Comply" provides data in flat file or XML format. No complex middleware is required for operation. MPI’s RFID "Plug-and-Comply" accommodates cases up to 34 inches in width and/or length. RFID labels can be written to and affixed at the rate of 10 to 15 cases per minute as they are transported around the conveyor at a speed of 60 feet per minute. Product speed varies depending on the number of operators. Initial set-up, training and installation services are provided by MPI, with supplemental on-call technical assistance available with service contract.
