EMS Technologies, Inc. has announced the appointment of Stephen Newell as general manager of LXE Inc., the company’s rugged mobile computer business, reporting to Neil Mackay, executive vice president and chief operating officer.
Newell joined EMS in 2003, most recently serving as vice president of Satcom sales for the company’s EMS SATCOM business unit, where he led the formation of a global aeronautical sales team and sharpened the business’s go-to-market strategy.
Newell’s key priorities will be to continue focus on, and growth of, LXE’s distributor channels to market, which doubled in 2008; to enhance product manufacturing; and to lead initiatives to improve the business’s profitability. The business unit manufactures a complete line of rugged vehicle-mounted, handheld and wearable mobile computers, used in a variety of supply chain applications. LXE currently employs more than 400 people worldwide, and has major offices in Norcross, Ga., Brussels, Belgium and Singapore, Malaysia.
“I am very confident in Steve’s abilities to continue the activities initiated over the past several quarters to reshape the business for its current markets, as well as lead LXE into new ventures,” says Mackay.
“LXE has a very strong product and service value proposition, with some of the largest, most respected partners and customers in the retail and intermodal industries -- all of which are important differentiators in this tight market. I’m excited to lead LXE’s talented staff and to leverage opportunities within and outside the autoID market to help grow this business,” Newell says.
