Chrysler launches returnables program
Returnable containers for engines have ten times the lifespan of cardboard crates; this new packaging also prevents fluid seepage.

Recently, the Mopar Parts Division of Chrysler Corporation introduced its new Returnable Container Program (RCP) to the corporation's dealers. Long-life, recyclable containers and cores provide an environmentally-friendly alternative to the traditional cardboard boxes used to ship manufactured engines and transaxles to the automaker.
Steve Graves, operations manager for Mopar, says that these recyclable containers should have a "lifespan about 10 times that of cardboard crates. That's a dramatic reduction in raw materials usage and waste generation."
The containers' stackable designs save storage space and permit easier parts handling and shipping. Jay Tucker, manager of Mopar remanufactured parts, says that "since the containers prevent fluid seepage, they help prevent accidents."
Containers shipped to independent shops must be returned to the Chrysler dealership from where they were shipped, he adds. "It's essential that these containers [or cores] remain in circulation within our system so customers receive proper credit for returns."
All Mopar remanufactured engines and domestic automatic transaxles will switch to RCP. Mopar expects to complete the RCP launches by the end of the 3rd quarter this year.
