Energy: Gap installs solar power system

By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 12/1/2008

By installing a 1 megawatt solar power system at its West Coast DC, Gap Inc. will generate 1.9 million kilowatt-hours annually, equivalent to the electricity needed to power 350 homes.

Gap will be able to buy predictably priced power generated from the system for the next 20 years through a long-term contract, rather than through a major capital investment. The company can forecast energy costs better and minimize increases and uncertainty in traditional power pricing.
