By Mike Flamer -- Modern Materials Handling, 1/1/1999
1999 will be an exciting year for the materials handling industry and for the Materials Handling & Management Society. As we discussed here last month, the Society has grown over 80% in membership and is now better able to be the professional society that the materials handling industry wants and needs.
This year, the Society will continue to expand its services to include new and more in-depth articles about the new technologies permeating the industry. One example is our website. It continues to attract new users as we add services and information.
The MHMS continues to define and shape itself as THE source for educational materials, correspondence courses, and research information about materials handling processes, equipment, and technology.
MHMS chapters are expanding too. Several of the chapters are now offering regional meetings that feature programs about materials handling processes, safety training, OSHA regulations, design and application strategies and state-of-the-art equipment.
The MHMS Certification program is the only professional certification available specifically for materials handling.
And don't forget, you are cordially invited to attend our Annual Membership Meeting and Networking Luncheon, to be held in conjunction with the ProMat show. The meeting will be held on Monday, February 8, 1999 from 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm at McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill. Our keynote speaker will be Dr. James Tompkins, President of Tompkins Associates. His topic will be "No Boundaries: Moving Beyond Supply Chain Management: Supply Chain Synthesis," which is also the title of his new book.
We are looking forward to seeing you at the show and our luncheon. For more information regarding this important event, visit our website at www.mhia.org/mhms or give MHMS a call at 704-676-1183.
