Guidelines for better DPM
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 2/1/2007
Direct part marking may soon be a more reliable form of product identification, thanks to new guidelines from AIM Global ( www.aim global.org).
The trade association published its "Direct Part Mark Quality Guideline" last month. Later this year AIM will ask the international community to accept these guidelines as global standards, says association president Dan Mullen.
International standards exist for the quality of printed two-dimensional bar codes, he says, but no such standards exist for 2D bar codes marked directly on the surface of metal objects.
