Inovis introduces a 'Facebook' for the supply chain

Like Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn, the Inovis Social Network is a private social network web site for trading partners to access contact information and company profiles.

Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 3/1/2009

Inovis, a B2B software provider, has introduced a Facebook-style social network web site that solves the problems of updating and accessing contact information and company profiles by providing a web-based network for trading partners.

For vendor compliance managers, keeping up with the contact names across thousands of suppliers can be a nightmare. Job turnover for fulfillment managers and accounts payable managers at suppliers can be 20% - 30% each year, and contact information is typically out of reach from teammates – like finding a needle in a haystack. Now, when a supply chain manager finds a problem in a purchase order or shipment, they can go online and quickly pinpoint the right person at the supplier, third-party logistics provider (3PL) or contract manufacturer who can help resolve the issue before it causes delays in the supply chain. And like other social networks (Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn), this service is a hosted web site that users can log into to access a secure view of their colleagues, ensuring their latest data is available to their business community.

Inovis features:

Easy web access - delivered as a software-as-a-service or as packaged softwareSafe content - with secure access and configurable role-based views, so users only see relevant data.Custom fields - to align with how your business runs, including types of supported documents and business processes

"Social networking gives individuals a direct link to one another, to stay in touch and receive updates about activities and changes in each others’ lives,” explains Inovis’ chief technology officer Erik Huddleston.  “We're applying the same concept to business communities so that retailers, manufacturers, suppliers and vendors can better understand each others’ roles and responsibilities, and stay updated on changes in staffing, projects, or products."
