LXE introduces Bluetooth ring scanner

LXE Inc. (Booth 1032) introduced yesterday a Bluetooth-enabled ring scanner for use by mobile workers in a multitude of supply chain environments.

By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 4/22/2008

Designed to be worn comfortably on the back of the hand or the wrist, the small, lightweight scanner and battery pack weighs less than a Blackberry.

Ring-style scanners, which enable hands-free bar code scanning, are typically tethered by a cable to a mobile computer worn on the worker’s forearm. This new unit eliminates the cable, communicating wirelessly with a mobile computer worn on a belt or mounted on a vehicle. With the ability to pair with any Bluetooth-enabled handheld, the scanner can transmit critical data from 1D and 2D bar codes from up to 30 feet away. This gives the operator the freedom of movement necessary to perform bar code reading tasks quickly and in comfort.

“Bluetooth technology has opened up the opportunity to take another step forward in providing data-capture systems that better serve the needs of mobile workers,” says Richard Adams, director of strategy and marketing for LXE. “This model is the smallest, lightest and most comfortable wireless scanner available today.”

And, by combining the ring scanner module with Bluetooth communications and a system for easy pairing to mobile computing devices, LXE offers a hands-free scanning solution that is easy to implement, Adams said.
