MES market heats up

What's the hottest supply chain execution system on the market today?
It's not warehouse management systems (WMS) or transportation management systems (TMS).
It's manufacturing execution systems, or MES. The MES market is forecast to grow 15% per year for the next five years, according to analyst Ralph Rio of ARC Advisory Group.
"MES is now a $2 billion market worldwide," says Rio, adding that after 20 years, MES is finally receiving its due.
The software is now within reach of manufacturers of all sizes, he says. While an MES implementation cost a couple of million dollars 20 years ago, it costs just $250,000 today.
The technology has become easier to integrate and use, says Rio, and it's the only way to achieve the level of visibility and control today's manufacturing speeds demand.
