RFID at Frontline Solutions

By Bob Trebilcock, Editor at Large -- Modern Materials Handling, 8/23/2005

RFID will be front at center at Frontline Solutions Conference and Expo (877-232-0132), the annual industry forum focused on the application of Auto-ID and information management technologies and solutions.

Held at Chicago’s Navy Pier, educational conferences will be offered from September 26 through 28. The expo will run from September 27 through 29.

“With the attention being paid now, it’s hard to keep RFID out of the conference,” says George Miller, editor and chief, Frontline Solutions. “Any attendee will leave with an active sense of how RFID is being used today and how it’s going to be applied in the future. And that’s across a variety of industry verticals, and using both active and passive RFID technologies.

For instance, keynote speaker Ray Homan, senior vice president with SAP, will explain how to use new technologies to gain business value, including how to identify new applications of RFID in logistics, service parts and asset lifecycle management in a discussion titled “Beyond RFID: Achieving business value through your supply chain using ‘real-world awareness’”.

RFID will also be central to conference educational tracks.

Dr. Daniel W. Engels, a research scientist at MIT, will offer “Technology, Applications & Business Benefits of Mass Serialization,” a one-day workshop that will explain the applications and value of mass serialization. The session will examine applications of RFID technologies, a walk through the fundamentals of the technology, lab and software demos and an examination of applications enabled by mass serialization.

“RFID Fast Track,” a half-day session hosted by Steve Halliday, president of High Tech Aid, will bring attendees up to speed with RFID terms, technology, standards and applications.

RFID will also be featured in educational tracks presented in the Inventory ID & Tracking and Logistics/Warehousing conferences. Topics to be covered will include case studies of RFID in the supply chain from Philips and from pH Europe, a bulk container rental and transportation services provider in the UK.
