Supply chain: Survival in the circle of life
Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 2/1/2009
As president of Tompkins Associates, the international supply chain consulting firm, Jim Tompkins has seen an array of approaches to economic recovery. He told Modern during ProMat that a company's future is like the circle of life in "The Lion King."
"What got the fig tree that fell this weekend in my woods?" he asked. "It was dead and was huge, but in keeping with the circle of life, it was time for that tree to be gone and let the light in to let the saplings grow so you have new trees. That's where we are with this recession. It's marvelous. It's a celebration we should be having because the dead wood is going away. It's time for a fresh start and a new beginning."
