Box prices rise as demand falls
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 10/1/2008
Prices of corrugated boxes have increased from 7 to 11%, following a price increase of $55 per ton for containerboard in July, according to an August survey of domestic box plant employees conducted by Longbow Research.
Of those surveyed, 61% felt the current price increase would only partially offset cost inflation, while several felt that an additional price increase in early 2009 was a possibility.
Box demand continues to be weak, with shipments down 2.4% on an average week basis, but containerboard supply continues to be tight.
