CICMHE announces student design winners
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 10/1/2008
Tasked with improving productivity while accommodating growth for a fictional distributorship, six student teams came up with real-world solutions as part of the College Industry Council on Material Handling Education's (CICMHE) design competition.
Judge Mike Ensby, a Clarkson University professor, said the teams came up with a variety of solutions, including use of automation for materials handling and management information systems.
The winning team, (pictured, from left) Logan Wells, Kelvin Yuen, Justin Love and Charles Crawford (not pictured) from Virginia Tech, had an “almost 360-degree look at the problem space,” Ensby said, with “a balanced approach to the solution between technology, process, human resource management and quantitative methods.”
