Product focus on lift truck attachments

By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 11/1/2008

Paper roll clamp doesn't damage product

The H-Series paper roll clamp lift truck attachment prevents damage when knifing between rolls in trailers, containers and rail cars. The system's contoured shape allows lift truck drivers to easily maneuver around adjacent paper rolls, while a contact pad provides an ultra-thin leading edge to knife between rolls. Chamfered ends on the pads prevent damage to rolls during vertical movement of the roll clamp. To hold the pads in proper alignment with the arm, contact pads are always positioned in the clamp-ready position. The unit is configured to allow high visibility over the frame and through the arms. Double-depth, telescopic attachment

The Fox double-depth telescopic platform attachment handles loads up to 4,400 pounds. Extending cross sections and precise roller guides accommodate various load dimensions. It is powered by a proprietary drive system and is offered with eccentric lift or symmetrical and asymmetrical tine adjustment. Combining a cogwheel, rack and pinion, and fixed chains, the platform enables good approach accuracy and guide precision. MIAS, 866-642-7872, www.mias-usa.com.

Vacuum attachment secures loads from the top

The battery-powered forklift vacuum attachment allows an operator to load and unload brittle or thin objects made of granite, metal and plastic. The detachable lifter is mounted on a chassis, which slides onto standard 26-inch forks. Incorporating 16 spring-assisted vacuum pads depending upon configuration, the attachment lifts sensitive loads from the top, without hooks, grabs or slings. The attachment slides easily over forks, has remote pendant control and is powered by a low-maintenance 12V gel battery. Featuring built-in parking stands to protect the rubber suction pads when not in use, it lifts up to 5,000 pounds. Anver, 800-654-3500, www.anver.com.

Lift drums safely

The L4F-QC attachment for lifting and transporting drums includes an automatic cam device to lock the attachment to the forklift. This eliminates safety chains and the need for the driver to dismount the truck to secure the attachment to the forklift. The gravity and spring activated cam system locks the unit to the forks as soon as it is raised up, and releases automatically when the attachment is returned to the ground. Fully mechanical, the system requires no hydraulic or electric connections. It handles up to four steel, fiber or plastic-rimmed drums weighing up to 2,000 pounds each. Pressure regulator prevents paper roll damage

The Force-Matic proportional pressure regulation system can be used with the supplier's line of paper roll clamps to prevent damage due to overclamping. The system automatically adjusts grip force to best fit the load weight. Once the valve's load parameters are calibrated to the task, the system operates like a mechanical calculator, continuously tweaking the hydraulic pressure required to securely clamp the load. Its heavy duty aluminum construction ensures low maintenance. Bolzoni Auramo, 713-664-0161, www.bolzoni-auramo.com.

Remote hour meter tracks truck use

To reduce maintenance time and labor costs, the remote hour meter reading device for the supplier's lift trucks remotely acquires and automatically tracks run time. The meter is housed in a 3 x 5 inch box and links to a digital paging network. Customizable, the network allows operators to select a specific time for the device to submit truck runtime data, which can be accessed at any time from any computer. Features include a Web-based software interface for viewing either an entire fleet or specific units, and GPS capability for remote tracking of fleet truck locations. Hyster, 800-497-8371, www.hysteramericas.com.

Winch boom turns trucks into portable cranes

The winch boom attachment quickly turns a lift truck into a portable crane. The attachment fits standard fork trucks and provides an economical alternative to an overhead or gantry crane. Offered in fixed, telescopic and pivoting telescopic models, the hook capacities range from 2,000 to 2,400 pounds. Standard operation is powered by 110 volt electrical. Optional DC or hydraulic winch operation may be specified. The Caldwell Group, 800-628-4263, www.caldwellinc.com.

Jaws lift, transport drums

The gravity-actuated, mechanical Auto-Grip lift truck attachment is equipped with standard jaws that are spring-and-cam actuated. The smart jaws grip with pressure equal to the weight of the drum. Most efficient when used with consistently sized loads, the jaws adjust to fit 30-, 55- or 85-gallon steel, fiber or overpack drums. It may also be used to lift and transport any cylindrical object measuring 18 to 28 inches in diameter. Secured to forks with heavy duty T-bolts, the attachment lifts up to 1,500 pounds. Valley Craft, 800-328-1480, www.valleycraft.com.

Compact AC drive

The compact J1000 AC drive offers side-by-side mounting and operates a larger motor with normal duty rating. The drive provides overexcitation braking to reduce stop times without external braking resistors. Features include open loop V/f control with a speed range of 40:1, normal and heavy-duty ratings, starting torque of 150% at 3Hz, five-digit LED keypad, and vibration resistance from 20Hz to 50Hz. Ideal for materials handling, food and beverage, and packaging, the unit includes CE, UL and cUL global certification and is RoHS compliant. Yaskawa Electric America, 800-927-5292, www.yaskawa.com.

Split line-shaft conveyor spools

Split spools for line-shaft conveyors replace standard, one-piece line-shaft spools to save labor and reduce conveyor downtime. The units reduce noise while eliminating the need to disassemble the conveyor to replace spools. Constructed of precision-fit parts, the spools have no bumps or gaps, preventing line-shaft belt abrasion. High concentricity provides efficient rotation to cut rolling resistance, saving energy and extending drive belt life. Two installation options include clutch action for automatic slips when boxes jam or accumulate—like a standard spool action—or a shaft lock to provide positive drive on curves or merges without keyed shafts and spools.
