Focus on motors

By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 8/1/2007

Low-vibration motors last longer

New models add to the Super-E line of energy efficient motors. Balanced to deliver half of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) allowable vibration level, the motors run with fewer mechanical stresses to the bearings, extending life. Models include general-purpose, chemical processing, C-face, explosion proof, and close-coupled pump motors with 1 to 1,500 horsepower ratings. An ISR (inverter spike resistant) magnet wire is included to resist transient voltage spikes, high frequencies and short rise-time pulses from inverters. Three-year warranty included. Lead-free motor driver card

The CB-016S2 brushless 24-volt DC motorized roller driver card includes a rotary switch for easier speed setting. The card's lead-free design complies with the RoHS directive. Features include two-pulse per rotation signal output and NPN open collector output. A selection switch generates manual or automatic recovery of the thermal overload device or volt shortage protection of the microprocessor against voltage lower than 15 volts. An integral 10 index rotary switch combines with a dip switch for 20 different fixed speeds. Red, green and orange LED lights identify error type and frequency occurrence. Servo motors are application flexible

Encased in a sturdy housing with built-in convection cooling, the DS/CM synchronous servo motor series includes standstill torques ranging from 1 to 68 Newton-metres. Peak performance ratings of up to 238 Newton-metres and high overload capacity accommodate most power requirements. Offered in three sizes and three different lengths for each size, motors can be mounted directly on a machine or integrated into a standard or reduced backlash gear motor. For use with low-power applications, the DS model features include 24-volt holding brakes. Equipped with servo brakes, the CM model's high-energy magnets yield a high overload capacity of 400% standstill for high rotational accuracy and low cogging. Meet and beat NEMA standards

Three lines of AC motors include die cast copper rotor and special stator designs for efficiency ratings that meet or exceed National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) standards to reduce energy costs. General purpose die cast aluminum, general purpose cast iron and severe duty cast iron frame motors are available for use in a variety of industrial applications, including air handling and conveyor applications. Features include cooling fins, polypropylene fan and internal cooling scheme to minimize heat build-up. A refined rotating assembly with anti-friction bearings, polyurea-based grease, dynamically balanced rotor, and precision-machined mating surfaces for reduced vibration are also offered. Motor combines induction economy, servo performance

Allen-Bradley high-power Kinetix (HPK-series) motors for materials handling generate servo motor precision and performance at the power ranges and cost of induction motor technology. The 150 horsepower motors yield faster acceleration and improved positioning, precision and up to a 25% increase in system throughput. The optimized electrical winding design mimics the speed/torque curve of a conventional permanent magnet servo motor for peak torque that is twice the continuous torque when running at base speeds. Single- or multi-turn, highresolution absolute feedback eliminates homing routines, improves velocity regulation and expands inertia matching capacity.
