In Conjunction with the 57th anniversary of the first bar code patent, Ryzex (www.ryzex.com) announced the winner of "The Big Upgrade." Ryzex, a mobile technology services company, launched a contest to find the oldest working bar code data collection device and turn old equipment into new technology, with the winner receiving a handheld computer from Psion Teklogix (www.psiontecklogix.com).
The winner, chosen at random, was New Enterprise Stone & Lime with the Telxon PTC 600 & 960, from Motorola/Symbol, circa 1990. The oldest entry, still working since the early 1970s, was the MSI 2100 from MSI Data Corporation (shown here).
