By Mike Flamer -- Modern Materials Handling, 1/1/1998
Happy New Year! 1997 was an exciting year for the Materials Handling and Management Society (MHMS). 1998 will be even better. There is no better time to join MHMS than now! We've reduced our annual dues from $125 to $60. And the services and educational materials continue to grow:
Correspondence Courses. We offer four great courses for your private study; they are:
MM-1: Material Handling
MM-2: Material Management
MM-3: Advanced Material Management
MM-4: Material Handling Engineering (to start in April, 1998).
Each of these courses is supervised by academicians who work with you through the courses. After successfully completing a course, you receive a certificate of completion. We strongly suggest that you proceed to professional certification as a PCMH or PCMM.
Internet support. MHMS now has its own interactive website: www.mhia.org/mhms. This site will offer technical papers and a wide array of information to help you to do a better job as a material handling professional. To access this site, you will need to input your name and your confidential membership number which will be provided to members mid-February.
Modern Materials Handling Subscription. If you are reading a borrowed issue of this magazine right now, you will get your own copy of it when you become a member of MHMS.
Seminars and forums. As a division of the Material Handling Institute, MHMS now can offer member discounts on attending the educational forums at the North American Material Handling Show this year and at the ProMat event in 1999. Additionally, MHI holds seminars around the country throughout the year. Members will be able to attend these seminars at a discount.
Chapter membership. To be a member of an MHMS chapter, you must join MHMS first. For information on membership and on all of our new services, please call Bobbie Curtis, Manager of MHMS Operations. Her number is 704-676-1183.
