ICM begins caster standards effort
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 1/1/1998
The Institute of Caster Manufacturers has established a committee to draw up a standard to give manufacturers, specifiers, and users a common basis to evaluate the safety, durability, structural adequacy, and technical requirements for specific applications of casters and wheels made in North America.Among the categories to be covered are institutional uses of casters, applications for (a) less than/equal to 2.5 mph and (b) greater than 2.5 mph speeds, and over 20,000 lb capacity loads.
Testing methods will cover such factors as initial as well as wheel play and swivel play; fatigue/braking; static, dynamic, and side load tests; rollability; and electrical resistance.
