More than 2,000 exhibitors, 150-plus expert speakers, and tens of thousands of attendees will all converge on Chicago's McCormick Place next month for National Manufacturing Week (NMW). With four shows and conference programs rolled into one under a very big roof, this year's NMW is organized around the theme: "Preparing Industry for the 21st Century."Whether on the floor at the individual shows or in the very full schedule of management conference sessions, attendees can expect to learn about the latest manufacturing technologies and trends. Walking the nine miles of exhibits or attending the seminars, one will be exposed to the best ideas and strategies to cope with and stay ahead of the competition in the years of 2000 and beyond.
Despite the middle word in its title, National Manufacturing Week isn't just for people with manufacturing job titles. Managers, engineers, and others in warehousing and distribution operations can find much to streamline their operations as well.
The March 16-19 mega-event is structured around the four show and conference venues:
- The National Plant Engineering & Management Show and Conference
- The National Industrial Automation Show and Conference
- The National Industrial Enterprise IT Show and Conference
- The National Design Engineering Show and Conference.
Obviously, NMW is one really big show. One way to arrange your participation in the conference sessions is to focus on those cross-functional tracks most relevant to you and to your company.
Expected to be of greatest interest to this magazine's readers will be the tracks on 21st century manufacturing, asset effectiveness and management, integrated manufacturing technology, management challenges, information technology management, computing/operating trends, and manufacturing enterprise solutions.
NMW will also showcase 15 Special Product Focus Pavilions. Included and likely to have the greatest appeal for Modern Materials Handling readers are pavilions on industrial packaging, simulation software, robotics, open control architecture for systems, motors and drives, contract manufacturing, safety/ health/environmental issues, and maintenance software.
Conference hours for the show run 8 am to 5 pm, March 16-18, and 8 am to 12 noon on March 19. Exhibit hours are 10 am to 5 pm, March 16-18, and 10 am to 4 pm on March 19.
