Accu-Sort, Eastman Chemical link on invisible bar code ink
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 2/1/1998
Accu-Sort Systems and Eastman Chemical Company, leading companies in the automatic data collection and chemical industries, have linked up to work together on products involving invisible bar code ink technology. The two firms have agreed to a worldwide licensing agreement; under its terms, Accu-Sort will manufacture and market laser-based, fixed-position scanners for use with Eastman's NIRF inks. These inks are based on near infrared fluorophore markers for printing invisible bar codes.
"This new technology is effective in many applications: commercial printing, packaging, product/document authentication, process control, fraud prevention, and asset tracking," says Randy Diamond, vice president of marketing at Accu-Sort. "The primary benefits are aesthetics, space utilization, and stealth identification."
Bar codes printed with NIRF inks are invisible to human eyes. When activated by the proper wavelength laser scanner, the inks fluoresce in the near-infrared region where they are detectable by an Accu-Sort scanner, but remain invisible to humans.
