Materials handling leaders honored

Two materials handling professionals were honored for their dedication to the materials handling profession and materials handling education at the Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA) annual meeting in Naples, Fla.Howard Zollinger, president of Zollinger Associates, received this year's Reed-Apple Award. Established in 1981 by the Material Handling Education Foundation Inc. (MHEFI), this award is a tribute to the memory of Dr. Ruddell Reed Jr, and Dr. James A. Apple, materials handling educators and innovators. For more than 40 years, Zollinger has supported the materials handling field.
Author of over 100 technical publications, Zollinger is actively involved with educational activities such as The Teacher's Institute and the College-Industry Council on Material Handling Education. Zollinger is also an adjunct professor in Michigan Tech's Mechanical Engineering Department.
Al Wurz, chairman of Accu-Sort Systems, received the Norman L. Cahners Award. Wurz has served as both MHIA chairman and Material Handling Industry of America executive chairman. During the last ten years Wurz also has served as vice president of the Material Handling Industry of America (MHEFI).
As chairman of Accu-Sort Systems, Wurz established an annual MHEFI scholarship of $2,500 that's continued for more than 12 years. As treasurer of the MHEFI board, Wurz led the organization to a secure financial position which will assist in future funding of MHEFI programs.
