By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 3/1/1998

The business assets of King-Way Order Selection Systems have been acquired by Stanwich Acquisition Corp. from Harvard Industries. King-Way, manufacturer of gravity flow and computer-assisted picking systems, will be merged with Auto-Lok, Inc., an Atlanta, Ga., based storage rack manufacturer to form a new company, King-Way Material Handling. The new company will be consolidated into the present Auto-Lok location and will have its headquarters in Acworth, Ga.

The combined organization will be able to provide a greater number of products and services than before. Kingway Material Handling will design, manufacture, and install roll-formed rack, structural rack, carton flow, pallet flow, pick-to-light, and pick-to-display systems. The merged units will offer materials handling solutions for a variety of industries and applications.

In Cincinnati, Ohio, earlier this year, Chase Industries, Inc. closed on an agreement to acquire Econo Max Manufacturing, Inc. of Portland, Oregon, according to Michael D. Evans, President of Chase.

Both Chase and Econo Max are nationally-known manufacturers of traffic doors for use in commercial and industrial applications. Chase, founded in 1931, was a pioneer in the production of thermal barrier doors for food plant cooler rooms. Today the company is a major supplier of doors for many food and pharmaceutical operations, specializing in, among other areas, high-speed doors and door operators.

Econo Max Manufacturing will continue to manufacture door products at its facility in Portland, Oregon. The company will complement Chase's product line with its own impact traffic doors, dock seals and shelters, and the extrusion of vinyl material. The addition of Econo Max's west coast manufacturing and distribution network enables Chase to provide more convenient and efficient customer service.
