Three-wheel electric maneuvers in tight areas
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 4/1/1998
TMG models of a three-wheel electric rider lift truck feature a compact design which delivers high productivity and operator comfort in trucks with capacities 2,500 to 5,000 lb. Based on the Clark TM model, TMG trucks have a sleek, rounded appearance with no sharp edges; equipped with full hydrostatic power steering, the trucks also have highly responsive solid-state transistor controls that contribute to a high degree of maneuverability.Separately excited drive motors apply turning power to the outside wheel, while reversing the inner wheel, to achieve improved right angle stack performance and better traction on wet, slippery floors and in freezer applications. Turning capability allows the TM to operate in more confined areas than four-wheel trucks.
Ergonomic and safety features of TMG trucks include a high visibility upright; hydraulic cushioning for smoother, quieter lifts; large steel grab handles for easy entry or exit from either side, and a non-skid floor plate with anti-fatigue matting and non-slip steps.
Cowl-mounted control levers are positioned for natural, comfortable access. The TMG's steering wheel is offset so the operator is in a more natural position with one hand on the wheel, the other on the hydraulic levers; the wheel also easily adjusts for operators of different sizes. A non-cinch seatbelt and safety seat with lateral restraints are among other safety features.
Available in 36- and 48-volt models, TMG trucks can be equipped with the Unitrol foot directional pedal so both direction and acceleration are controlled by the operator's right foot. Standard direction control is column mounted and allows easy finger tip operation.
