Zero-pressure control provides speed, accuracy
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 4/1/1998
Accurate accumulation, fast throughput, and quiet operation can now be achieved with a recently introduced accumulation system. Using a new method of zero-pressure control that combines the sensing accuracy of photo-electrics with discrete electronic logic control, the EZLogic Accumulation System operates without the use of a PLC or pneumatic logic components.Electronic zero-pressure logic, which is the basis of the EZLogic Accumulation System, is a new method of zero-pressure control. This system provides all the intelligence needed to accurately control the various functions of zero-pressure accumulation on a variety of conveyor models. Reduced noise, higher reliability, higher through-puts, and ease of maintenance are just some of the advantages.
The heart of the system is an accumulation module. Each module is equipped with a photo-electric device to detect product presence, a microprocessor to evaluate various input signals, and control connections to provide communication of data between zones and from outside sources.
Two modes of operation are available with this system. Using the singulation mode, product separates while traveling down the conveyor and when it is released from the conveyor, creating a zone length gap between packages. This mode is comparable to normal accumulation using pneumatic accumulation logic. With the slug mode, product does not separate when traveling down the conveyor or when it is released from the conveyor. This allows higher carton throughput at a given conveyor speed. Product will not separate on the conveyor even when accumulation has been activated at the discharge end.
