Reach truck rates international award

The newest product introduced by Crown Equipment Corp. has already garnered international acclaim for its design. "Without question, to be included as one of the Top Ten designs is quite an accomplishment," says Michael Gallagher, Crown director of design. The company's newest reach trucks, the RR 5000 and RR 5000S series, earned honors as one of the Top Ten designs from a panel of judges selecting Industry Form (iF) Awards for the 1998 Hannover Fair in Germany. Selections were made from more than 1300 submissions.
The series establishes a new architecture by utilizing previously unused space around the mast to house components. This new layout allows the truck's power unit to curve downward, thereby increasing forward visibility.
Comfort and efficiency improvements were other motivations behind the 5000S series' new approach to the operator compartment. Operators are able to change from seated, leaning, or standing operation. This quick change flexibility, including height adjustable controls, represents new industry designs, offering operators ergonomic benefits in fatigue reduction while increasing the truck's versatility.
Significant improvements were also made in travel and load handling performances, establishing new industry standards. In addition, the 5000 series incorporates a new generation of service diagnostics, creating high levels of service and accessibility.
