Gene Schwind, 1937-98

Gene Schwind, executive editor of Material Handling Engineering and a 36-year veteran of the magazine, died May 9th after suffering a brain aneurysm.Gene wrote the monthly Material Handling Spotlight column for the Penton Publishing magazine as well as feature and news articles and reported on industry developments across a broad range of topics.
Coverage of the lift truck industry was one area of materials handling that Gene had specialized in for years. His monthly column long had focused attention on proper operator training and related safety matters of forklift handling of pallet loads.
Gene was 60 years old; he is survived by his wife, Cindy, sons Chris and Gregory, and daughters Laura and Debbie. He was the grandfather of seven.
He will be missed by the materials handling industry.
