New resources for you
By Martha Spizziri -- Modern Materials Handling, 6/1/1998
We've introduced a new area to the Modern Materials Handling web site: a Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) page. This new section provides a wealth of information on WMS from the magazine and other sources as well.Resources include case studies, how-to articles, and technology features that have appeared in Modern Materials Handling in the past three and a half years. You'll also find new product descriptions that have appeared in the magazine in the past year and links to WMS-related information that's available elsewhere on the Web. We'll constantly be improving this resource. For instance, WMS stories from our sister publication, ADC News & Solutions, will be added soon. New web links and other pertinent information will be added as they are found.
Another improvement: a link on our home page to our Plant and Warehouse Planning Issue. This issue, published annually as an extra edition in the Spring, is a year-round resource. We're now making it easier to find.
This year's edition has a special focus: planning plant and warehouse operations for tomorrow's environment. Covered are concepts such as crossdocking, which has been around for a while but is increasing in popularity, as well as a few ideas you may not have heard of yet-order assembly centers, value-added service centers, adaptable manufacturing, flow-through warehousing, and postponement systems.
These are not theoretical, pie-in-the-sky concepts. Rather, they are practices being used successfully in real operations, right now. The planning issue stories show you how it's done. The issue also includes a reference library of materials handling literature.
Finally, look for a new section on the ADC News & Solutions site: A monthly standards column, written by AIM International Technical Director, Steve Halliday. ; Visit us online
