Ergonomic stand-up fork lift is efficient

The editors covered a number of innovative products and systems at press conferences and presentations held during the 1998 North American Material Handling Show and Forum in Detroit. The following is a sampling of what we saw.

By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 6/1/1998

One of Schaeff Inc.'s warehousing series fork lifts is the W35, a stand-up counterbalanced truck with rear entry/side stance. This model has capacities of 3000 to 5500 lb. The W35 allows the operator to look forward or backward with virtually no neck strain.

Innovative aspects of the truck include Schaeff's multi-function control handle, which controls every operation except steering; the operator can lift/lower, drive backward/forward, or side shift left or right with the handle. This lift truck also features electric steering. Electric steering reduces the probability of hand and wrist strain. Other benefits of electric steering are the elimination of maintenance of hydraulic steer components, and reduced power consumption. Almost 65% less power is needed with electric steering.
