Automated rack handling

The editors covered a number of innovative products and systems at press conferences and presentations held during the 1998 North American Material Handling Show and Forum in Detroit. The following is a sampling of what we saw.

Detroit seemed the perfect venue for spotlighting an automated rack handling system for auto manufacturing. The modular system incorporates Airfloat/HSI Systems' designs of shuttles, turntables, and rack handling equipment. It is adaptable to different configurations and rack sizes, and can be integrated with robotics.

Also integrated with the system are robot guidance systems provided by Perceptron that employ laser cameras, software, and controllers to ensure close tolerances in the process.
