UPS wins global logistics honor
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 7/1/1998
UPS was recognized as a worldwide leader in package distribution- with Federal Express and Emery Worldwide as the two other notable finalists-in a competition sponsored by DBM, the Distribution, Business, Management Association. The 1998 Circle of Excellence Award was presented to Jim Kelly, CEO of UPS. He accepted the award at a black tie awards ceremony attended by some 400 corporate execs held during the International Warehouse of the Future Show and Conference in Phoenix last month.
DBM presents this excellence award to leading companies in various industries (Mercedes Benz was last year's winner), which represent the highest standards of quality and technology, providing a model and goal for all businesses.
UPS was also recognized for the company's commitment to the environment. Four case studies from UPS documented how the company had worked with Canon, General Motors, Blockbuster Video, and IBM to im-prove package handling using a reverse logistics approach.
