Bi-annually the Board of the Materials Handling & Management Society (MHMS) calls for nominations of individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the materials handling and materials management professions, explains Bob Bryan, past president and a Board member. These individuals are selected from nominations received from the MHMS membership. Nominations are requested for the following MHMS achievement awards.Materials Handler of the Year: Awarded to an individual deemed by the Society to be an outstanding materials handler.
Materials Manager of the Year: Given to an individual selected as the best materials manager of the year.
William T. Shirk Service Award: Honors an individual chosen for his or her exceptional dedication and outstanding contributions to the MHMS and the entire material handling profession.
Donald Francis Achievement Award: Recognizes an individual for exceptional dedication and outstanding contributions to the field of materials handling on an international level.
These important MHMS individual achievement awards will be presented at the Modern Materials Handling Productivity Achievement Awards banquet in February 1999 in conjunction with the ProMat 99 show and forum.
Those individuals honored during ProMat 97 with these awards were: Materials Handler of the Year, Blaine Bowen, chairman and CEO, Liftow Ltd.; Materials Manager of the Year, Gus Pagonis, senior vp, logistics, Sears Merchandise Group; William T. Shirk Service Award, William B. Sbordon, publisher emeritus, Modern Materials Handling; and Donald Francis Achievement Award, James Apple, Jr., vp, The Progress Group.
