Keeping cool, out on the dock
Water spray pipes (arrows) can cool trailers on hot days.

Is the action at your receiving and shipping docks too hot-measured on a thermometer, that is-during these summer months? In hot spells and certainly in many southern U.S. climes, unloading operations can be a very hot, sweaty job. Temperatures may soar to as high as 125 deg F or more inside truck trailers. But here's a "beat the heat" idea that might help you, as a manager, keep temperatures as well as tempers down on the docks, avoid the risk of worker heat stroke or fatigue, and likely boost dock productivity.
A TrucKool Systems installation (photo) intermittently emits a fine mist of water spray onto the roof and sides of a trailer from overhead pipes. Evaporation then can cut inside temperatures by as much as 25 deg F, according to the Killen, Ala. company, for less than 3 cents/day/dock door.
