Mannesmann Dematic Corp. acquires Protomark, ergonomic handling firm

Mannesmann Dematic Corporation, the North American material handling unit of the German conglomerate Mannesmann AG, will acquire Protomark, a manufacturer and supplier of ergonomic handling systems in Mount Clemens, Mich.Mannesmann Dematic's acquisition is part of a long-term strategy to increase market presence and operating results.
"This acquisition, when combined with Mannesmann Dematic's vast experience in overhead material handling systems, gives us the necessary platform for Protomark to aggressively pursue growth opportunities both nationally and globally," says Bill Persch, president of Mannesmann Dematic. "We plan to develop a national network and to transfer Dematic's ERGO product activity to Protomark."
The merger of Protomark will serve as the foundation for Mannesmann Dematic's expansion into ergonomic handling systems. Protomark will operate as a division of Mannesmann Dematic Corp. and will maintain its existing management and business philosophies.
Protomark manufactures ergonomic assist devices, manipulating arms, lift assists, and articulating arms for a wide variety of industries including automotive, aerospace, as well as production and assembly operations.
Protomark was founded in 1987 by Joe Tranchida; he will continue his current responsibilities at the company.
