People informed are people empowered. Before the information age, only top leaders generally had access to key information, allowing them to control. But a paradigm shift is taking place. Through communication networks now accessible to those at all organizational levels, vast quantities of information and educational resources are available. With these changes-and as more and more individuals become empowered- the only constant will be continuing education. This is where the Materials Handling and Management Society (MHMS) can help. MHMS educational opportunities include:
Correspondence courses: Members can take advantage of our correspondence courses for professional certification. These affordable, 20-week courses may be taken in your own home and within your own timetable. MHMS offers four correspondence courses: (1) MM-I-Materials Handling, (2) MM-II-Materials Management, (3) MM-III-Advanced Materials Management, and (4) MM-IV-Materials Handling Engineering.
The next session for these courses begins in September. If you are interested in signing up, you must do so by August 20. Visit our web site at www.mhia.org/mhms or call our offices at 704-676-1183 for more information on course content and on how to apply.
Self Study Courses: These courses are available to MHMS members at a discount price. They are:
The Essentials of Material HandlingT-Introductory Concepts, System Concepts, and Management Concepts. This self-study course encompasses a broad spectrum of subject areas. Study materials include over 90 illustrations usable as transparencies.
Basics of Material Handling CD-ROM. This multimedia CD-ROM features self-paced, user interactive instruction with computer graphics and photos.
For information on all of the benefits of membership, visit the MHMS Web site www.mhia.org/mhms. The Society's online presence on the Web, as part of the Material Handling Industry online home page, continues to be a means for Internet users to learn more about MHMS, including our training programs, certification and discounts on educational programs.
In addition to the opportunities provided through the national MHMS organization and online access, networking with peers through local chapter activities can increase your knowledge of the profession through local plant tours and technical education sessions. Contact the chapter in your area (see box above) for more information on local activities.
Good enough never is! When it comes to education, just thinking, considering, wishing, and contemplating are not good enough. Take your first step toward empowerment now.
Join today and give yourself (and your associates) the MHMS advantage!
