Modeling a warehouse
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 8/1/1998
Here's a good overview of a topic vital to readers-improving the warehouse. More specifically, this 131-pg. book covers the turf set out in its title, "Using Modeling to Solve Warehousing Problems: A Collection of Decision-Making Tools for Warehouse Planning and Design."Maida Napolitano of Gross & Associates wrote the book for the Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC). She explores the uses of modeling to create an efficient layout, to slot products intelligently, to locate a new facility, to plan labor and schedule work, and to meet other needs.
Areas of coverage-such as flow charting, spreadsheets for storage requirements, simulating systems by computer, and planning pallet loading-are explained well, laying much groundwork to help those new to warehouse improvement projects.
