Industrial truck associations to unite

In an attempt to form an "Alliance of Industrial Truck Organizations" consisting of European, Japanese, and U.S. industrial truck associations, the groups met in September. Several results came from this session.The purpose of an alliance is to recommend common action in statistics, engineering standards, and such other areas as might be defined in the future. An alliance would also provide a forum where industry leaders can exchange ideas with their peers.
The organizations, Federation Europeenne de la Manutention Section IV (FEM IV), Japan Industrial Vehicle Association (JIVA), and the Industrial Truck Association (ITA), will establish an Executive Steering Committee to guide the work of the Alliance. The presidents of the various organizations will serve on that committee.
The establishment of an International Engineering Steering Committee was also approved. The committee will define areas where additional cooperation is needed to resolve differences in the approach to standardization.
The members also agreed to recommend that the respective organizations accept the invitation of JIVA to meet in conjunction with the JIVA annual meeting in May, 1999, and the FEM IV invitation to meet in Germany in conjunction with the Hannover Fair in 2000.
