Small "biz" Rx for Y2K bug?

By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 10/1/1998

Are all your computer-driven systems- including those that control machines and materials handling systems-ready for the cutover to the year 2000? Small manufacturing companies may want to contact the U.S. Commerce Department's Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) for help "curing'' the "millennium bug'' or Y2K problem in which the 00 year designation might be mistaken for the year 1900 instead of 2000.

According to the Commerce Department, MEP's computer-based tool for Y2K issues will help smaller manufacturers inventory their equipment, identify core business systems, develop contingency plans, and plan and manage remediation projects.

Small manufacturers can call 1-800-MEP-4MFG (637-4634) to reach an MEP center for their region. Or go to these web sites for more information: www.mep. nist.gov or www.nist.gov/y2k.
