Don't miss the ProMat 99 show and forum

Need to increase productivity? Find the solutions to materials handling challenges at ProMat 99.

By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 2/1/1999

This month the largest materials handling event in the U.S., ProMat 99, returns to Chicago's McCormick Place North for another exhibition.

Sponsored by the Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA), this four-day event will host 45,000 people from 60 countries. Over 600 exhibits of equipment, systems, and services, will cover 290,000 sq ft on two show floors.

The educational forum, which runs concurrently with the show, will focus on improving productivity in the areas of manufacturing, distribution, and warehousing. The Material Handling Institute (MHI) and the Materials Handling and Management Society (MHMS) are co-sponsors of the forum program.

On-site registration for the show is only $25, or $10 with a VIP registration coupon available from show exhibitors. Educational forum fees are separate from show registration fees and include admission to the show during its four days.

Educational forum

Over 100 speakers, including end users, will conduct new engineering and design seminars, half-day planning and management tutorials, and one- and two-day workshops.

"Shorter seminars should be a welcomed change to ProMat 99," predicts Dick Ward, executive vice president and general manager of MHI. "The educational forum is more balanced at this show with seminars lasting for 1-1/4 hours for more focused information and targeted interests."

Another change scheduled for ProMat is the number of additional courses for the subject of order picking. Four new seminars will be featured for attendees with various levels of expertise.

Last year's North American Material Handling Show marked the introduction of session papers that forum attendees could download from the Internet. "Some of the attendees still wanted papers in hand to walk away with," says Ward. "This year we're offering the complete papers on CD ROM." Papers will again be accessible from the web, www.mhia.org, with a personal identification number.

The Materials Handling and Management Society (MHMS) will hold its annual membership meeting on Monday, Feb. 8. On Tuesday, Feb. 9, Eskay president James Allred will deliver the keynote address (see related news story). Also, a panel debate on the present supply chain revolution will be featured at a free plenary session on Wednesday, Feb. 10.
