Grocers lag on EDI usage

Supply chain management inertia: Grocery companies in the U.S. are making little progress in implementing electronic data interchange (EDI). So says the Electronic Commerce Process Improvement Group of the Joint Industry Project on Efficient Consumer Response.This lag in EDI usage threatens the benefits for companies which have implemented the technology. Only in replenishment purchasing and financial settlement (invoicing, for example) has there been progress. Manual, paper-based transactions are the norm elsewhere.
