MMH recognizes productivity

Ascend Communications, Lucent Technologies, and Blockbuster Entertainment were honored for excellence at the Modern Materials Handling ninth annual productivity achievement awards banquet held during ProMat 99.Each year, MMH recognizes three companies that have scored outstanding productivity achievements with materials handling strategies. The candidates, which are chosen from companies profiled in MMH features during the calendar year, are selected based on five criteria:
1) Customer service capabilities;
2) The capability to respond quickly to changing marketplace conditions;
3) The flexibility to alter operations in order to respond to unplanned events;
4) The ability to consistently deliver the right product at the right time at the right place, and;
5) An overall improvement in operations.
Ascend was chosen for manufacturing excellence at a plant that produces telephone controllers in Alameda, Calif.
Lucent Technologies was recognized for warehousing excellence at its Network Products group in Mesquite, Texas.
Blockbuster Entertainment was singled out for distribution excellence at its McKinney, Texas facility, which combined ten regional distribution centers into one 820,000 sq ft facility that services 4,000 stores.
