Forklift turns heads at ProMat 99

By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 4/1/1999

This omni-directional forklift from Airtrax Corp. may well have been one of the most watched exhibits at ProMat 99. The truck moves in any direction you can point the joystick--forwards, backwards, sideways, or at an angle on any hard surface. Even when transporting full loads, it can climb over obstacles up to 4 in. high. The omni-directional wheels are powered by four 5HP AC motors, and the unit can rotate 360 deg in its own footprint. The upper forklift assembly is mounted on a turret that rotates 180 deg without moving the vehicle. The 46 in. by 60 in. wheel base provides a stable tilt table platform. The United States Navy is currently looking at this truck for on-ship use. Turn to page 125 for additional show products.
