MHMS-Just right for you
Enormous technological leaps at ProMat 99 testify to the need to maintain your knowledge of materials handling.
By Mike Flamer -- Modern Materials Handling, 4/1/1999
If you missed the ProMat 99 show, you missed an opportunity to see the materials handling industry at its best. Not only did over 650 companies display their products and services, but the booths allowed up close views of the newest technology and system advances for use by your companies and clients. The Materials Handling & Management Society (MHMS) was quite visible at ProMat. We had our own registration booth and hosted a wonderful membership luncheon, featuring a keynote address by consultant Jim Tompkins. At the luncheon, we announced that the MHMS has almost tripled in membership since January 1998 and retention of members has almost doubled, to 78%.
The educational and training materials now available to members have increased. At our ProMat booth, we introduced a new interactive CD-ROM correspondence course called "Economic Justification of Material Handling Investments," which is available now from MHMS.
The MHMS Board of Directors voted to establish a new level of certification so that more members can enter our certification program. We are broadening our program to include material handling professionals with limited formal education, training, or on-the-job experience. The new certification, entitled Certified Associate in Material Handing (CAMH), will be administered beginning in June of this year.
The enormous technological leaps witnessed at ProMat give compelling testimony to the need to maintain your knowledge of materials handling. MHMS is working hard to provide the most up-to-date materials so that you can stay current regarding new equipment and systems.
