Data capture by 2-D systems growing rapidly
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 4/1/1999
End users around the world spent some $115 million last year on equipment and systems to read 2-D symbologies. Applications for the automatic data capture technology should increase that sum by more than 50% per year through the year 2002, says Venture Development Corp., Natick, Mass. But the market research firm suggests that suppliers of 2-D symbologies need to develop and carry out a comprehensive end user and integrator education and training program to counter factors which may otherwise restrain implementation of the technology.
According to Venture Development, those factors include lack of end-user knowledge, cost of hardware, lack of applied solution support, standards, end-user fears of installation, and marking system quality issues.
