Manufacturing pros as CEIs
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 4/1/1999
Here's one way for manufacturing professionals to keep pace with constant changes in the world of information technology: Obtain recognition as a certified enterprise integrator (CEI) under the program offered by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers."If the Y2K problem has a positive side," says SME president C.E. Schneider of Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems, "it's the focus of how extensively we rely upon computers, computing tools, networking, and computer-driven design and manufacturing enterprise."
The SME program develops CEIs who study customer focus; shared knowledge systems; business processes; resources and responsibilities; and manufacturing environment infrastructure. These topics relate to current manufacturing concepts: supply chain management, concurrent engineering, and value management.
For more on the CEI program, consult the SME home page at www.sme.org/certification.
