Eliminating the walk-and-search method for retrieving materials, a vertical lift module (VLM) is an enclosed, automated, high-speed, high-density storage unit housing trays of items that are stored and retrieved. The unit handles totes, boxes, raw materials, tools, and dies. Taking full advantage of ceiling height and cube, the VLM maximizes storage capacity on a smaller footprint. Moving up and down its center is an inserter/extractor system. The extractor stores and retrieves trays from vertically positioned slots and delivers them to the pick window. All units can be PC controlled and networked with software.
