Rent your returnables?

By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 5/1/1999

If you're already using reusable, returnable containers for materials handling or only thinking of doing so, here's a relatively new option to consider: Rent them. Container and Pallet Services (CAPS) last fall launched a rental and tracking program for reusable plastic containers after several years of testing this new kind of service. The service includes a container tracking system (CAPS-TRAC) accessible over the Internet, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

San Francisco-based CAPS says managers concerned with packaging and shipping can avoid overhead costs by renting the containers, and eliminate some logistics issues through the tracking capability CAPS provides.

CAPS offers three levels of service: rental only; track and manage a company's existing fleet of containers; and rent, track, and manage containers. Tracking covers containers moving in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Call 415-397-8008 or 888-873-2277 for more information, or go the firm's web site, www.useCAPS.com
