Industry leader L. West Shea dies

L. West Shea, founder of the trade association The Material Handling Institute, Inc. passed away May 10 in Scottsdale, Ariz. at age 84. He served as the Institute's managing director for many years. (The group is now known as the Material Handling Industry.)

Shea also founded the College-Industry Council on Material Handling Education to develop, fund, and promote cooperative educational programs between institutions of higher education and the materials handling industry. He was also a founder of The Material Handling Education Foundation

Shea was CEO of the association management firm Shea Management, Inc. Among various honors, he received the industry's prestigious Reed-Apple award and the Materials Handling & Management Society's Presidential award.
