Distribution execs in demand
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 6/1/1999
It's a seller's market for executives with distribution skills and experience. So suggests a survey of 200 industry CEOs, presidents, and senior execs at member companies of the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors.Nearly 60% of surveyed execs report difficulty finding candidates with the right mix of skills to fill distribution management positions. There's keen competition for this talent not only within wholesale distribution but within other industries as well.
Some NAW companies do go outside their own ranks for new hires. And they're finding that the expertise outsiders have acquired outweighs the costs to bring them up to speed in wholesale distribution.
NAW companies, like others, are joining the trend to linking pay to performance of the company and to implementing benchmark-based bonuses. For more information, go to the Web site, www.nawpubs.org/ report.html.
