MHMS: Indispensable resource
By Bobbie Curtis -- Modern Materials Handling, 7/1/1999
It is not uncommon to hear that "people are a company's most important asset," even if at times it seems that people are becoming the most expendable asset. It is every individual's responsibility to make themselves more valuable. While lifetime employment is highly unlikely, through constant training and education everyone can be prepared for lifetime employability. The significant driver of change in much of the work environment these days is blizzard-like advances in technology, and, subsequently, knowledge. Resources that have been difficult to locate in the past are available now at the click of the mouse. Members of the Materials Handling & Management Society (MHMS) are finding that the Society is their indispensable resource for continuing their professional development.
MHMS is proud to announce the availability via the web site (www.mhia.org/mhms) of an extensive Bibliography on Materials Handling which includes a mix of trade and professional periodicals as well as academically oriented research journals referencing articles as far back as 1991. The bibliography is updated each year and is intended for use by researchers, managers, engineers and others interested in a convenient source for published information on materials handling.
The bibliography is designed to facilitate the direct retrieval of information by browsing by subjects including applications, equipment, general, and methodology. Each category is then broken down into subcategories wherein the individual may search by keyword, subject, year, etc.
MHMS continues to develop and extends its educational and training programs to meet the expanding needs of the materials handling professional. MHMS recently announced a new interactive CD-ROM course entitled, "Economic Justification of Material Handling Investments." This course is a must for the individual enrolled in the certification programs offered by MHMS.
A new level of associate certification has been added to include material handling professionals with limited formal education, training, or on-the-job experience. The Certified Associate in Materials Handling (CAMH) program is available now.
Professional Activities is the official publication of the Materials Handling Management Society. For membership, access the Society's home page on the World Wide Web http://www.mhia.org/mhms or contact Bobbie Curtis, Executive Director of MHMS, by calling 704-676-1183.
