Ergonomics--key factor in packaging machinery
By Staff -- Modern Materials Handling, 7/1/1999
Nearly nine of every ten respondents (88%) to a survey say that ergonomic qualities are considered when they buy packaging machinery. Most of this group also reports that ergonomics is a more important factor today than it was last year.Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI), Arlington, Va., surveyed packaging professionals and draws its findings from 407 random responses. The study has a margin of error of +/- 4.9%.
"As companies look to increase productivity and efficiency," says PMMI president Charles D. Yuska, "ergonomic considerations will continue to play a commanding role in future purchasing decisions." Among machinery conditions that can detract from improved ergonomics: frequent repetitive movements, awkward postures, noise, vibration, excessive heat exposure, and dust.
